Description

As a student that has been largely influenced by traditional teaching environments, the hybrid language classroom was a very different experience for me. Although I have learned a language before, the flipped classroom cleared the way for me to find how I learn best. In doing most of the "time-consuming" work outside of class time, I found that I was able to use this outside work for greater understanding of classroom activities. Along with enrichment, some difficulties arose with the flipped language classroom, such as personal accountability. With certain activities only being graded periodically, as opposed to every day, the opportunity to put off outside work came into play. As an education major, I kept asking myself, "How effective is this, really?" Drawing on my experience in this language classroom, as well as other experiences with flipped classrooms, I plan to assess the effectiveness of this style within my own context and others that I have observed.
