Abstract

The editorship of Word Ways brought me into contact with the National Puzzlers' League. Founded in New York City on July 4 1883 as the Eastern Puzzlers' League, this organization has for more than a century been dedicated to the construction and solution of rhymed word puzzles, a pastime as popular in the nineteenth century as the crossword is today.
