Abstract

Lee E. Preston and James E. Post's seminal book 'Private Management and Public Policy: The Principle of Public Responsibility' was first published in 1975. The tome introduced the interpenetrating systems model, which has become an underlying framework for designing work in the field of business and society research. Since the book first came out, the business and society field has developed in terms of scope and scale as an area of academic inquiry and applied problem solving. In celebration of the book's 25th anniversary, the journal Business & Society dedicates a special forum on the work and the interpenetrating systems theory in its Dec. 1996 issue. The forum brings together a group of researchers in the social issues field to bring fresh perspectives to the discussion.
