Ancient stories of the Trojan War tell the story of a world in turmoil and people struggling to find their place. Today, this is the story of us. A world in turmoil, manifest in seemingly countless and unexpected ways, and us, trying to figure out who we are and what these extraordinary times call us to be in response. The bard we know as Homer sang the tale of a ten year war that turned the world upside down, that turned the free into slaves, people into corpses, and youths into adults in moments. You may think of these stories as myths of heroic and victorious triumphs, but Homer sang of struggle, trauma, loss, conflict, and resilience. He was also really good at warrior smack talk. These stories ask us to consider fundamental questions about humanity, human impulse, and how we function in a world we can’t always control.
