Description

The purpose of this study is to discover if a college student's perception of their caregivers' mental health has any relationship with their social adjustment skills. The parental mental health is defined solely by the student's own perceptions rather than a diagnosis of a doctor. For the study, social adjustment skills are defined as the ability to adapt and grow within a new environment. Many studies have been conducted regarding the effect parents and caregivers have on their children, as well as about student adjustment; however, there is a lack of information regarding this specific relationship. The research will make use of a personal adjustment scale, interpersonal adjustment scale, and a perceived parental mental health scale. All three scales will be blended together in an online survey through SurveyMonkey.com. These scales will assess the two variables through the self-report of the student. A population of 200 undergraduate students from Huntington University will be invited to take part in this survey.
