Description
Prior work showed that more than half of the annual energy consumption of Lampsilis siliquoidea in Crooked Lake occurs during July and August, suggesting that if food is limited, weight loss may occur. We tagged, weighed and measured 43 individuals on 20-22 Jun 2017, and recaptured 25 1-2 Sep 2017. We found a significant increase in weight of 1.66 g (paired t-test, alpha = 0.05, n=25). Thus, rather than the mussels having lost weight, our results show that they actually gained weight.
