Abstract
The late mathematician Eric Temple Bell wrote science fiction stories for pulp magazines back in the 1920s and 1930s under the pen name John Taine, an activity which was said to be an embarrassment to his colleagues. I read many science fiction stories back in that time, including some by John Taine about whom I then knew nothing.
