Abstract
Of the several genera of freshwater Rhodophyta belonging to the subclass Florideae, Tuomeya fluviatilis Harv. is probably one of the rarest forms. In North America there are five genera of freshwater Florideae: namely, Chantransia (Augouinella in Smith, 1950), Batrachospermum, Thorea, Lemanea and Tuomeya.
