About This Journal
BU Well was founded at Butler University in 2014 as the first open-access multimedia healthcare review journal in the nation in order to provide students the opportunity to write, publish, and manage an editorial. The project was created through the Butler Innovation Fund Grant written by former College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences Dean, Mary Graham and former BU Well advisor, Dr. Erin Albert, of the College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, in 2015.
The mission of BU Well is to be an open access, student managed, online multimedia journal publication related to reviewing and advocating for pharmacy, interprofessional healthcare, and health policy through Butler University. Volume 3 Editor-in-Chief, Skyler Walker, is grateful to participate in this “exceptional opportunity”. She states that BU Well is unique because it “gives students the opportunity to work on every step of a project, from planning, researching, writing, and editing, to making an infographic, designing a video, and formatting everything to fit the scope of the journal.” First year student, Madelyn Mays, expressed her excitement regarding joining BU Well , stating that she “wanted to embrace the opportunity to write in a science-dominated field of study.” She is most looking forward to “seeing the finished product of this year’s volume and seeing everyone’s hard work come together.”
For those students mulling over the decision of submitting an article, one former member of BU Well offers this suggestion, “Go for it! It may seem daunting at first, but it is worth the effort. Ask others to help bounce off ideas and to read what you have written.”
BU Well will publish its fourth volume focusing on health, wellness, and life sciences on April 12, 2019.
