Description
This project aims to examine the context and frequency of bark calls elicited by fox squirrels living near wooded areas close to human influences. I will survey four transects: one along the Monon Trail, one on campus, one in the woods at the IMA Nature Park, and another along the Central Canal behind Butler. I will determine relative population densities of fox squirrels along each transect and monitor call frequency. I will survey transects between May and July at different times of day while making note of external factors. Such information will help shed light on our understanding of fox squirrel vocal behavior which has been rarely studied. Further, I hope to add to our knowledge of the nature of vocal behavior within human influenced environments.
