What is the economic conception of human nature? Is it more appropriate to ask what are the varying kinds of economic conceptions of human nature? This presentation will discuss the role of simplifying assumptions in economic theory and how these assumptions influence or are influenced by economic conceptions of humans. Arguments will be considered from the fields of Behavioral Economics, Feminist Economics, and Economic Methodology. Contemporary debates about rationality and abstraction will be elucidated through this analysis of economic conceptions of human nature.
