Description
The objective of this experiment was to develop a calibration curve for clothianidin in order to validate the concentration of clothianidin in seawater solution. Varying concentrations of clothianidin and seawater solutions were prepared, and the average absorbance of each solution was measured with a Shimadzu UV-1650 spectrophotometer to create a calibration curve. A correlation factor of 0.997 showed that the data acquired was a linear fit and could be used to calculate the actual concentration of clothianidin using the equation y= 0.0254x + 0.0088. The desired concentration of clothianidin solution can then be used in toxicological studies of aquatic organisms. The clothianidin solution made in this experiment was used to study the effects clothianidin had on the defense mechanism of sea anemones, acontia ejection.
