Description
The Rebellion of 1857 in India was the result of many socio-political issues, ending quickly with much devastation. One key player within this period, the British East India Company, was the mode of rule that the British used to implement and enforce their colonial rule there. Following the Rebellion, however, the East India Company was dissolved and the rule of India was directly placed under the British Crown. This complex movement, ending with a multitude of consequences, displays a facet of British imperialism and how it changed over time, specifically in India. Followed by political and social change, as well as the replacement of the East India Company, the Rebellion of 1857 was a period of transition not only for India as a colony, but for Britain as an imperial power.
