Description
Echinocandins are becoming increasingly important in the management of Candida infections due to the emergence of azole-resistant Candida species. The purpose of this medication use evaluation (MUE) was to assess the patterns of micafungin use throughout Community Health Network (CHNw) hospitals. The primary outcome was the percent of patients who received micafungin in accordance with the recently updated Infectious Diseases Society of America (IDSA) Clinical Practice Guidelines for the Management of Candidiasis. The secondary outcome was the potential annual savings (in USD) associated with switching to an alternate echinocandin (anidulafungin).
