Description
The cognitive and affective processes that are ‘in play’ when a person decides to adopt a goal have been generally ignored by previous research. Some of our prior work suggests that being in a positive affective state when deciding to pursue a goal facilitates goal achievement. In the current experiment, we will attempt to replicate and extend our prior work. Specifically, participants will be induced into a positive or neutral affective state and will be asked to adopt the goal of performing well on an upcoming exam. After the exam, participants will report the grade they received. We predict that grades will to be significantly better for the positive affect group compared to the neutral affect group.
