Description

Memories of the discovery of the Trump election (N=276) and the Obama election (N=203) were compared in this study. The Trump data was collected the day after the election took place, while the Obama data was collected from the day after to two weeks after the 2008 election. A main effect of election was found in free recall with the discoveries of the Obama result being more elaborate and extensive than memories of discovering Trump’s election. Also discovering the results of the Obama election was much more memorable than the Trump election and differences in the evoked emotion was the mechanism responsible. Lastly, the Trump memories were short on facts.
