Description
A survey was conducted to identify and analyze commonalities between collegiate hook-up culture, absent fathers, and the level of parental involvement. Respondents were asked questions regarding demographics, family composition, their relationship with their parents and parental involvement, personal sexual preferences and attitudes, and lastly, relationship vs. hookup culture perceptions. The results from 102 college aged females showed that those with absent fathers had a slightly higher percentages in sexual risk taking behaviors, but also had a slightly higher preference for relationships than those without an absent father. These results reinforced the hypothesis that a women’s sexual socialization is negatively affected by an absent father, and leads to more risk taking behaviors but does not coincide with the notion that those with an absent father prefer and support hook-up culture.
