Description
This research project examines how being a part of an organized, high-level sport in college can affect academic performance. Does being a part of an organized college sport detract from or enhance the student’s academic performance? Can a high-level athlete perform both on the playing field as well as in the classroom?
Preliminary research suggests that being a part of an organized sport has an overall positive affect on the athlete’s academic performance. I personally, used document analysis to collect the data for my particular research. My results from this study are that there is not a bear out that there is a distinctive indicator that participating in high profile collegiate sports negatively impacts the academic performance of the student athlete. My findings ultimately showed that collegiate student athletes actually do better in school than non-athletes do simply because they have a lot of resources that are available to them in order for them to be successful in their studies as well as on the court, or on the field.
