Abstract
When the writer of this dissertation was a little girl she was much intrigued by a gift given her, a small red volume of "Poems for Children," dated 1793. That together with stories and poems which her grandfather and grandmother well remembered from their few childhood books, and related many times, created an intense and lasting interest in books for children, particularly those dealing with the various forms of literature.
