Description

Inhibition of telomerase in cancerous cells has been heavily researched since telomerase helps dictate cancer's proliferation and growth. As polyphenolics have shown to inhibit telomerase activity, cancer is being tested with foods high in phenolic content. In this experiment, both green and black tea polyphenols were extracted and applied to cancerous HeLa cells at various concentrations. Signs of apoptosis and telomerase activity were gauged using direct observation, immunofluorescent staining, Western Blotting, and telomerase assays.
