Description
This study attempts to address the barriers undocumented students in Indiana face in pursuing education. It analyzes the magnitude of Hispanic immigration to the United States and specifically Indiana, focusing on the growing anti-immigrant sentiment and nativism throughout the country and the reasons for this animosity toward immigrants. It discusses federal and state anti-immigrant legislation trends and how those relate to undocumented immigrants' access to education in Indiana. This study assesses the following questions: (1) how does current legislation affect immigrants' access to education in Indiana? And, (2) to what extent does an anti-immigrant mentality in Indiana affect Hispanic students' inclusion in education at the secondary and post-secondary levels?
