Description

Many countries other than the United States have experienced immigration. What is often not seen are the hardships and challenges immigrants are faced with when entering a foreign country. The film "Amador", by Spanish director Fernando León de Aranoa, provides insights into the problems in the lives of those who fled their past in hopes for a better future. With the support of historical evidence, as well as examples from "Amador", I will discuss what immigration into Spain could mean for the future of Spain and its societal life and culture. Historically, Spain has had much influence on the other Latin cultures around the world, and now people from those cultures are seeking a more promising life in Spain. In "Amador", the characters escape their home country looking for a more stable life, but what they find is not what they were hoping for, as is the case for many immigrants today. This research will explore the ways the film portrays these hopes and hardships.
