Description

Jesus was a man who inspired many by preaching what he believed to be right and inspiring those with little to no hope. People traveled from all over to hear him speak. There is a flaw with this system; what if you can't hear? When Jesus first had an encounter with a deaf man, he figured he would help by restoring his hearing. But whydidn'tJesus know sign language? In the Deaf Community, deafness is a part of who one is as a peron and it is insulting to see that as something that needs fixing. By fixing the man's hearing instead of speaking his native language, this story in the Bible is actually oppressive to the Deaf community. My paper explores the relationship the Deaf Community has with the Bible and the lengths those who are deaf have gone to be noticed in a hearing world.
