Description
Self-control as a trait has previously been measured with self-report questionnaires. The goal of this study is to find a more accurate behavioral measure of self-control. The tasks used in this study have beeen used in past research to deplete self-control. This study will test whether they can also be used as measures of trait self-control. 100 IUPUI underdraduates completed a questionnaire including the Self-Control Scale, and two of three behavioral tasks, the handgrip, eyeblink and cold pressor. GPA, which has well-founded correlations with self-control was collected, and the correlations between the self-report, the tasks, and GPA were examined. A more accurate measure of self-control would improve research in the field.
