Description
This study examines two different types of motivation—autonomous and controlled—in the context of specific healthy lifestyle behaviors and habits. It is hypothesized that both types of motivation will be predictors of health and exercise, psychological health, and social concern, and that in all cases autonomous motivation will be a positive predictor and controlled motivation will be a negative predictor. The sample will consist of college-age students from a small liberal arts university in the Midwest. Participants will complete a demographics survey, the Lifestyle and Habits Questionnaire-Brief Version (Dinzeo, Thayasivam, & Sledjeski, 2013), and the Global Motivation Scale (Guay, Mageau, & Vallerand, 2003). Data will be analyzed using multiple regression analyses and results will be discussed.
