Description

The effect torture can have on a society has been studied in many fields, but specifically international studies. During the Algerian War, the French government decided to use torture, but does this decision from the 1960s have an impact on current day France? My research will be addressing the correlation between immigration problems in France and the Algerian War. I will be analyzing the dehumanization of Arabs in the 1960s and how that dehumanization has impacted Arabs who have and are relocating in France, including Syrian refugees. I argue that using torture can have negative effects on a society, using the Algerian War as my case study. In conclusion, this project, by closely examining immigration, sheds new light on the impact torture can continue to have on a society, even the society that performs the act.
