Description
This study explores the cycle of poverty specific to impoverished areas of Marion County, Indiana. It focuses on indicators such as infant mortality, unemployment, poverty rate, prevalence of health insurance, and other markers specific to each area; zip codes are utilized to define target areas. The Indianapolis-Metropolitan area presents a stark contrast between socioeconomic statuses and the goal of this study is to identify key patterns that would explain and address these disparities. This data, after analysis, is being used to personalize specific measures for each targeted geographic area. This allows customized relief based on poverty indicators and trends for specific defined areas. In this project, areas are grouped in zip codes by way of 2010 census tracks. Data for these areas is gleaned from the US Census Data, Indy Vitals, and SAVI database run through the Polis Center in Indianapolis. This study seeks to pull quantitative data from these sources to then form a cohesive picture of the poverty cycle in the Indianapolis-Metropolitan area. The purposes are to address awareness and education regarding poverty in Marion County; focuses include identifying most effective and efficient treatments based on customized data reports.
