Description
This study is being conducted to better understand the Stroop test as well as how classical music affects concentration. The Stroop test measures the ability to inhibit natural tendencies. In this experiment, forty Goshen College students were recruited through the women’s volleyball team, the baseball team, and a science class on campus. Participants were randomly assigned to two different groups, one group completed the Stroop test with music and one without. Given previous research, it was hypothesized that participants will have a decrease in speed and accuracy on the Stroop test while listening to classical music. The data will be evaluated using an independent t-test. These findings will give insight on whether classical music, is helpful or harmful to listeners’ concentration, an important issue for students and professionals.
