Description
This research will be used to show the importance of art in a student's overall educational experience. This study will focus on a student's emotional expression, social confidence, and academic excellence. For this research we define fine arts as the areas of learning that are seen as artistic. Emotional expression is defined as one's ability to cope and freely express emotion without judgment. The term social confidence is used to define a student's comfort in social settings and interactions. Academic excellence is defined as a student's ability to show comprehension of educational material. These areas of research will be measured with survey questions that look at a student's participation in the arts and how it has affected them in these three areas. This survey allows them to reflect on their personal experiences and rate the success that they have noticed due to their involvement in arts. By documenting the experiences of college-aged students, this research focuses on reflection instead of current involvement. Often, school budget cuts lead to the removal of the arts within schooling. This research will allow schools to see the importance, if found, of requiring fine arts classes for students throughout grade school.
